I'm pretty sure it was between April 27th and April 29th. That's when I keep seeing articles posted that worried about the swine flu here in the US.

The H1N1 influenza cases are you are hearing about are the same strand. There may be other strands of influenza also circulating, but this appears to be a minority of cases. All types of type A influenza can be fatal and millions of people die every year of influenza. The cases of reported H1N1 have been surprisingly milder with no increase in mortality rates compared to regular influenza. You are correct, influenza is a constantly changing virus. Every year there are usually small mutations in the influenza strains. The concern with H1N1 is that it came about because of many more mutations and is therefore very different than the types of influenza we have seen for some time. It was thought that it would cause a more severe disease with higher mortality because the virus was so much more different than usual and therefore be new to people's immune system. This is how pandemics occur and we have not had one for quite sometime. I hope this answers your question

By the way. It’s called swine flu because they needed a name. It has nothing to do with pigs/birds etc.

There is a technical difference, but the results are like getting a cold. It's ridiculous to think there is going to be this huge death rate. The thing that should be focused on are the 786,000 deaths that occurred last year from doctor prescribed medications, medical malpractice and over 80,000 unnecessary operations performed on people. The number of deaths that are going to occur from people that get the vaccine because the vaccine contains LIVE VIRUS will far exceed the number that contract the virus from another person.

Where is the concern? The outcry over this terrible tragedy and so called "scientific wonder."

Baxter Corporation filed a patent on the swine flu virus 7 months before the first case was discovered. The patent was made public 1 month before in March of 2009 of the date when the first case of the swine flu was found in the boy in Mexico in April 2009. The only way a pig, bird, and 2 human viruses could be combined is through genetic engineering. That is very suspicious and if anyone believes it's beyond a company or person to do this, they are simply nieve. Especially when you consider that genetic markers were found in the victims of the swine flu. Novaratis company was another guilty party in this as well.

Big money is at stake and politicians derive their power from donations. Laws are made by these politicians that are lawyers for the most part and not scientists.

The 1918 Spanish Flu killed 50 million-75 million people, 99% of those who died were under 65 years of age, although half of those who died were 50-65 or under the age of 5, the other half were 20-40 years of age. Global mortality rate(those who died once infected) was between 10-20%

As of July 4th, 2009 the CDC and WHO have said there were 94,512 confirmed cases in 122 countries and among those there were 429 deaths associated with H1N1. They have not been keeping an accurate count since July 4th so any data since then is purely an estimate. Hospital cases world wide or (roughly 1/3 of those infected, representing cases that were in need of hospitalization) as of August 28th, 2009 is 287,537 infected, 3087 deaths or a 1.06% mortality rate if you need to be hospitalized.

If we do the math on overall confirmed cases(inside and outside of hospitals) 429 divided by 94512 we come up with the answer .45% or 9 people out of every 2000 have died from the virus. Of those 429 deaths only a handful were healthy individuals. 90% were the elderly, pregnant women, people with asthma, diabetes or suppressed immune systems and children under the age of 5. So if you are a healthy person that doesn't fall in any of these category's your risk of death is roughly .04% or 4 in 10000 chance, the same chance you'd have of dying from complications associated with any seasonal flu bug as a healthy person.

The same is true with the modern stat related to hospital visits, if we take into consideration how many have not gone to see a doctor, the estimated overall deaths to infection percentage is roughly 5000 deaths(about 2000 deaths thought to be related to H1N1 but not certain due to time of death and death outside of hospital) and 1,000,000 infected or .5% mortality rate.

the main difference between both flu's is that children, pregnant women and adolescents are more prone to catching H1N1 where as the influenza more likely infects people >65 years.
and the only difference in symptoms between the flu and H1N1 is that H1N1 gives someone diarrhea and vomiting.

PLUS.. h1n1 is way too overrated, so mannnnnny people die each year because of the regular influenza.

Virologist and other professionals are still working on this answer.
We are seeing this in some other areas of the world.

In Mexico we know the secondary infection was killing we also know that at the beginning it was not know what was killing(introduction of new virus) Still today hospitals and families are reporting quick deaths after onset of symptoms. In spit of reports half of those dying are healthy and some are healthy and pregnant. (FluTrackers has some case by case as reported by media and Some personal family reports)

Many of the sequences have not been released for what ever reasons.

It is suspected low Vit D levels and Arsenic may play a role in some of the deaths.(Vit D is really a hormone,some countries have high arsenic in the water/ground water)
In some cases it is possible the virus is evolving.
